CLIMATE MARCH
As a class, we discussed some environmental changes we can make in our daily lives to help protect our planet. Students worked independently, in partners and in small groups using recycled materials to create posters for our school wide Climate March.

ART: ZIPLOC BAG WATER COLOUR
CLASSROOM AGREEMENT
After brainstorming what we wanted our class to look like, sound like and feel like this year, we narrowed it down to 24 that we wanted to have as part of our classroom agreement. Each student designed a different rule and then used a special technique using a Ziploc bag, coloured markers, water and permanent markers.
LANGUAGE: TOPIC SENTENCES
Students were introduced to writing topic sentences before writing their Most Memorable/Favourite Moment paragraph. We discussed how a topic sentence needs to include both the general topic and a specific topic to give the reader an idea what their writing is about. After the class was given a sample specific topic, they worked in small groups to write their own topic sentences.
SCIENCE: ROCK CYCLE POSTERS
During our Science unit on Rocks and Minerals, students have learned about the three types of rocks (metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary). They used EPIC books to research where the rocks are found, what their special characteristics are and how they are formed. Working in partners, the class created posters displaying the rock cycle.
ART: STILL LIFE WITH OIL PASTEL
Students explored still life techniques using oil pastel and unique looking pumpkins, squash and gourds. After discussing highlights and shadows, students took a closer look at their different objects and replicated its features.
SCIENCE: SCIENTIST IN THE SCHOOL
We recently had a visit from Scientist Anne who helped to enrich our Rocks and Minerals unit. The class learned where in Canada you would find different kinds of rocks, explored and created their own fossils and discussed negative effects of mining in Ontario.
MATH: DATA MANAGEMENT
As part of our Data Management unit, students have been creating different kinds of graphs, collecting data and analyzing data. We have explored bar graphs, double bar graphs, pictographs and stem and leaf plots. Once data is collected and displayed, students have had to analyze the data to help make decisions in every day life. They learned the importance of mode, median and range.
